Your investments
Your retirement savings are invested with the aim of providing you with the best possible income when you retire. Get the highlights about investments below, with full details in the Savings Trust Guide.
Target Date Funds (TDFs): our default investment solution
Over 80% of you use TDFs to manage the investment of your retirement savings. By choosing your expected retirement date in Aviva’s MyWorkplace, TDFs manage the investment risk for you, slowly reducing your exposure to riskier investments as you head towards your retirement date.
There’s a different TDF for every possible retirement year. We call these Vintages, and there’s one that matches the year in which you expect to retire. For example, if you’ve set your retirement date as 30 June 2036, your money will be invested in the BlackRock Target Date Fund 2036.
TDFs are made up of a maximum of two investment funds – although each of these has a lot of different investments held within them. These two funds are:
BlackRock growth-focused fund
When you’re more than 15 years from your retirement date, all of your retirement savings will be in this fund.
BlackRock retirement-focused fund
When you reach your retirement date, all of your retirement savings will be in this fund.
But in the 15 years before your retirement date, you’ll have savings in both – and they’ll be gradually moving from the growth-focused fund to the retirement-focused fund. This chart shows what happens:
When you’re within 15 years from your retirement date, the fund factsheet for your TDF vintage in MyWorkplace shows your exact split between these two funds. Just head to the ‘Funds and investments’ section of your account to find it.
We’ve included the growth-focused and retirement-focused funds in the interactive performance chart below. But don’t forget, you can always see the latest information in the ‘Funds and investments’ section of MyWorkplace.
Choosing your own investments
If you prefer to make your own investment choices, you can. The Trustees introduced four new investment options in April 2025, giving you 22 to choose from. For more information about these new funds, check out our announcement. You can also see the full range in the updated Savings Trust Guide.
How have our investment funds performed?
Although past performance is not a guide to future performance, our interactive performance guide shows what’s happened with the core investment funds over one, three and five years to 30 June 2025.
*These funds do not have three and five years of investment performance data.
Our Target Date Funds haven’t been around long enough to have three and five-year performance figures, but here’s how they’ve performed over the two years since their launch.
Growth focused
Cumulative Performance to 30 June 2025
Retirement focused
Cumulative Performance to 30 June 2025
In addition, as they are new investment funds, the BlackRock Overseas Government Bond Index Tracker Fund and BlackRock ESG Overseas Corporate Bond Index Fund don’t have the minimum 12 months of performance figures yet. As such, they’re not included here.
MyWorkplace lets you see detailed investment performance figures that are updated regularly. See our guide to find out how to find them.
